About Me

Welcome! I’ve created this website to share the photographs I’ve captured over the years. As a retired engineer and teacher, photography has been a lifelong passion—something I’ve always returned to, no matter how busy life has become.

My Journey with Photography

Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I bought my first SLR camera with my grant cheque, and from that moment, my camera went everywhere with me. I even set up a spare bedroom darkroom to develop my black-and-white photos! Life became busier as I pursued a career as an electronics design engineer, got married, and later retrained as a teacher. Yet, photography was always there in the background, waiting for the right moment to take centre stage again. The digital era was that moment. I embraced digital photography, upgrading from a simple compact camera to my Canon 5D MkII, MkIV, and now a Canon R6 MkII with a 200-800mm lens. I also work extensively with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Along the way, I discovered a love for restoring old photos and even took on the nerve-wracking challenge of shooting my first wedding for a close friend.

My Focus and Passions

My true passion lies in wildlife photography. Whether capturing the beauty of nature here in the UK or travelling to places like Kenya, South Africa, and Costa Rica, I thrive on the challenge of photographing animals in their natural habitats. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of waiting for that perfect shot—be it a fleeting moment of eye contact with a big cat or a bird in mid-flight. In addition to wildlife, I enjoy capturing moments with friends and family, as well as events such as weddings and birthdays. When photographing these occasions, I prefer a candid, informal approach—aiming to capture genuine expressions and natural interactions. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with casual portraiture using portable flash systems, including speedlights and umbrellas. Some of these portraits are currently available for private viewing by clients and may be shared publicly in the future.

Exploring New Avenues

Beyond still images, I’ve developed an interest in wildlife videography. I record animals in their natural environments, with examples of my work available on this site and my YouTube channel. I’ve also built websites using HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap, and WordPress, and I’ve recently added video editing to my creative toolkit with Final Cut Pro.

Technical Approach

My galleries are created using Adobe Lightroom and Turning Gate plugins for Lightroom. All image processing is carried out within Lightroom, with further adjustments made in Photoshop when necessary. For photo books, I use Adobe Lightroom and Blurb, and for special layouts, I utilize Affinity Publisher. Portrait editing is performed in Photoshop and Lightroom, while slideshows are produced with FotoMagico 5. Video editing is done using DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.

Looking Ahead

For me, photography is about capturing moments, telling stories, and continuously growing as a creator. I’m excited to keep exploring, learning, and sharing my passion with others. Whether through images or videos, I look forward to inspiring and being inspired by fellow enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
